Having a party is a blast but cleaning up after it can be a chore which can dampen your mood. The last thing you want to do after a long, fun-filled and exhausting party is clean up. Here are some tips and tricks to help you cut down the clean-up time and relax after the party is done.
If you plan well, you shouldn’t have to do much after everyone has left:
- Start planning before the party
If you want to minimize the cleanup after the party, it’s a good idea to start planning before it. Look at the party venue carefully and determine ways to reduce the clutter. You can also consider removing furnishings and items that can cause a mess and are difficult to clean. For example, area rugs are easy to stain and very difficult to clean. All spills must be taken care of immediately if you want to avoid permanent damage to them. That’s why it’s a good idea to remove such vulnerable furnishings from the area and minimize your workload at the end.
- Place trash cans in visible locations
Your guests won’t make the extra effort to look for trash cans at your party venue. Place them in visible and easily accessible locations. That will reduce the amount of cleanup you need to do because most guests will be more inclined to toss the trash into the bin if there’s one in sight. They won’t place half-empty cups of beer or wine on your wood tables and stone countertops.
- Use disposable cutlery
Disposable plates and cutlery are your friends when you want to host a party. That saves you the trouble of cleaning the dishes after your guests have left. Use plastic cups, forks, spoons, and plates to serve meals to your guests, especially if you intend to host an informal party. They can simply discard the plates and spoons into the nearest trashcan, which will reduce your burden considerably.
- Minimize the need for plates and cutlery
You can minimize the use of cutlery by just serving finger food and small appetizers. If you plan the meals well, you won’t need to worry about scattered plastic plates either. Your guests will simply eat with their fingers and won’t require plates or spoons. This can work with both formal and informal parties if you choose the right dishes for the event.
- Ask your friends to help
You can cut your personal cleanup time in half by asking your friends to help you with it. More people working on the clean-up process ensure everything gets done quickly and efficiently. You won’t be as tired by the end of the cleanup and will be able to rest for a while before you have to face a new day.
